Windsurfing

Viganj is known as a surfing and kiting destination.

Because of its location on the narrowest part of Pelješac channel, under the slopes of mt. St. Ilija, mistral blows at an above average rate. During the day average wind speeds are around 5 on the Beaufort scale, but can get as high as 8.

The Croatian windsurfing championship is held every year, and it is open for everyone. In 1989. The world windsurfing championship was held in Viganj, and a year later it hosted the Europe windsurfing championship.
